Indoor Garden Advocate | Soil-Less Indoor Garden Coach
I’m Sharon Leigh, a retired U.S. Army veteran with over 23 years of service and a continued commitment to serving military and veteran communities. The Sustainable Gardens 365 Movement was created with a clear mission: to help combat food insecurity within military and veteran households by teaching practical, soil-less indoor gardening methods that make fresh, healthy food accessible year-round.
My journey into indoor gardening began in 2021, when rising food costs, repeated food recalls, and personal health concerns pushed me to search for a better way. What started as a personal decision quickly became a purpose-driven mission. I discovered that growing food indoors using hydroponic, aeroponic, and water-based systems could reduce grocery dependence, improve nutrition, and restore confidence in where our food comes from.
While supporting military and veteran communities remains at the heart of the Sustainable Gardens 365 Movement, the mission has grown to include like-minded individuals, families, and communities who want to take a more active role in how they feed themselves. Whether you live in an apartment, a small home, or simply want more control over your food, indoor gardening offers a practical and empowering path forward.
Indoor gardening is about more than producing food. It’s about resilience, peace of mind, and creating a calming space in your home. Watching seeds sprout, tending plants, and harvesting what you grow brings a sense of grounding and tranquility especially during uncertain times.
December 2025 Update
As 2025 comes to a close, the world has changed rapidly. Food access challenges have increased, and the food insecurity gap has widened deeply affecting military families, veterans, and communities across the country.
With this reality in mind, the Sustainable Gardens 365 Movement has refined its focus to emphasize education, empowerment, and self-reliance. The mission now centers on helping people learn simple, sustainable, soil-less indoor gardening methods that support both nourishment and well-being 365 days a year.
